Affiliate Marketing A marketing method allowing websites to share traffic and revenue using banner and text advertisements. Merchants sell goods and services through the affiliate's efforts, paying commissions for referred sales or leads. Auto Surf A web based program that automatically refreshes the web page. A user receives credit for each page viewed. Credits can be redeemed for web site hits, or cash. Banner Exchange A banner exchange is an advertising method that exchanges banner advertising on your wesbite for credit or cash. Many other web sites do the same thing, and your advertisement would be seen on their pages. A user receives credit for each banner displayed, and these credits are then exchanged for advertising or cash, depending on the program. CPA This abbreviation stands for "Cost per Action". This usually infers that a user must do more that just click an advertisement, although just clicking an ad may be the only action required. Often you will find this term used when a new user must provide valid contact information, like in a contest entry. Advertisers use these to control the cost of an online marketing campaign. Directed Traffic A website visitor arriving to view the site meeting your required geo-demographic, or has been pre-qualifed for your site content. Domain Name A part of the webs site address. For example, http://www.terraninnerspace.com the domain name would be terraninnerspace.com (Domain Names) are internet real estate, some having more value than others.Link Exchange A link exchange is an advertising method that exchanges a web page link on your website for a similar link on a link partner web site. Many other web sites do the same thing, and your advertisement would be seen on their link pages. These links can be crucial to website traffic development. Link Partner A partner site displaying a link to your website, in exchange for a similar link on your web page. Manual Surf A web based program that requires user response to refresh the web page. A user receives credit for each page viewed. Credits can be redeemed for web site hits, or cash. Pixel Ad A method of advertising that links a small graphic within a grid to a website or program. The results vary depending on the site, each site has it's own terms of use. PTP (Paid To Promote) A program that offers a reward for advertising their site. The rewards vary depending on the site. Many traffic exchanges are not allowing paid to promote sites. PTR (Paid To Read) A program requiring users to read email advertising in exchange for pennies (or less) for each email. Squeeze Page A webpage designed to "squeeze" a potential customer, for either a sale, or to turn them into a "lead" by getting their contact information. This information can then be used to send marketing information in an attempt to close the sale. Squeeze pages are great way to start building lists. Text Ad A method of advertising your website or promotion using words only. Text ads have a proven track record of being the most effective form of paid advertising on the internet. A text ad is has two basic elements, the ad copy and the destination URL. Compelling ad copy produces the best results. Three Way Linking A linking technique used to increase search engine hits. The process involves three sites linking together so that the links so that a path of links can be created across the three sites. An example would be Site A links to Site B, Site B links to Site C, and Site C links to Site A. A commonly used technique which is mostly ineffective. Undirected Traffic A website visitor arriving to view the site. The user may not meet your geo-demographic requirements, or have arrived via an incentive program. Website Traffic The amount of visitors to the website. Used for metering website activity, often described as being directed or undirected traffic. |
